“I tend to want students to understand concepts first, linking these concepts with other things they may have learned previously (especially as chemistry has lots of overlap with physics and biology, and also highly applicable in Earth science), and then consolidating this knowledge with practice or further building on top. I also like having my students know algorithms to answer common questions, such as stoichiometry, because this sort of stuff comes up a lot and a strong foundation is good for higher levels.”
