Term 1: Literary Journeys through Poetry
Students will study a range of poems from different times and cultures. In doing so, students will develop their appreciation for poetry. Students will explore the purpose and value of poetry, including how poetry reflects and challenges the perspectives, ideas and values of the world. Students will develop their ability to analyse and evaluate how poets use language forms and features to create meaning. This module will be grounded in understanding the voice of the poets studied and how that is shaped by their context. Students will also explore the ongoing significance of the poetry studied in this module. Students will develop their creative writing and analytical essay writing skills by composing a range of responses based on the poems studied.
